First Squad - Captain Fleming
Captain Clayton Fleming supervises the First Squad, comprised of "A" and "D" Shifts, in the Mooresville Police Department's (MPD) Patrol Division. He began his career with the MPD in 1988 working as a patrol officer until 1995 when he joined the Huntersville Police Department. Fleming returned to the MPD in 2002 as a Field Training Officer and was promoted to Sergeant in 2003. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2004 and to his current rank of Captain in 2007. Fleming is a staff instructor for the department and is one of three range masters in the in-service training program.
Fleming holds instructor certifications in the areas of General Instructor, Specialized Firearms and Specialized Radar/Lidar through the North Carolina Department of Justice. He teaches speed detection and enforcement courses at Central Piedmont Community College. Fleming instructs various Basic Law Enforcement Training courses, including firearms training, at Mitchell Community College and Central Piedmont Community College.
Fleming earned an associate degree in Mechanical Drafting from Mitchell Community College in 1987 and his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate in 2003.
