K-9 Teams

The Mooresville Police Department has four K-9 teams and each is assigned to a patrol shift. The handlers and their canine partners are certified each year through the North Carolina Police Dog Association, a nationally-recognized professional organization. Each team trains approximately 180 hours each year to maintain their proficiency in tracking, apprehension and locating illegal drugs. Although their emphasis is on enforcement activities, the officers and their canines are available for programs in the community.
