Chief of Police - Carl Robbins
Carl Robbins is the Chief of Police for the Mooresville Police Department (MPD).
Before joining the MPD, Robbins served as a police officer, shift sergeant, D.A.R.E Officer and crime prevention specialist with the Cornelius Police Department and as an on-call investigator with the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Robbins began his career with the MPD in 1994 as a detective. He served as a sergeant and a lieutenant assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit. Robbins was promoted to Captain in 2004 and directed the Criminal Investigations Unit, training & recruiting function, and the Records & Communications Division. In 2007, Robbins was promoted to major and became Director of Patrol Operations ~ managing the patrol shifts and Community Services Unit. He was named interim police chief in 2008 and promoted to Chief of Police in 2009.
Robbins received training through the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in the use of community policing concepts and techniques and has attended Problem-Oriented Policing seminars and training. He received his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission and is a graduate of the 113th Session of the Administrative Officers Course through the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville. Robbins has served as an adjunct instructor for Mitchell Community College teaching various curriculum courses in criminal justice and attended the 2007 Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Carolina Command College in Raleigh.
Robbins received an undergraduate degree from Presbyterian College in South Carolina, a Master of Science Degree from the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), and has taken additional graduate courses in leadership and management at the University of Louisville (Kentucky).
Robbins is the former coordinator for the Mooresville-South Iredell Crime Stoppers Board and a member of the North Carolina Police Executives Association. As a member of the Race City Civitans, Robbins is active in supporting Special Olympics.
