Comprehensive Planning

The Town of Mooresville's Land Use Plan focuses on innovative planning practices to manage and coordinate growth. These practices work in tandem to create a more efficient and sustainable pattern of development that builds community. Mooresville’s planning philosophy is embodied in its zoning ordinance which embraces more traditional town-building practices and in its long range or comprehensive planning policy documents. The backbone of this philosophy is embraced in the development of small area plans that provide a tool for regulatory decisions and patterns of development at a smaller, more fine-grained scale.

Transportation Planning involves the coordination and management of multi-modal transportation planning activities, including bikeways, roadways, highways, railways, pedestrian walkways and public transit. Staff coordinates activities with other departments and outside agencies such as the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), Iredell County and the Lake Norman Regional Planning Organization. Transportation Planning and Land Use are evaluated simultaneously to ensure the design of specific land development and transportation projects are compatible with the development vision of the town. Staff also review and recommend specific operational improvements to transportation systems.
